Nice To Meet You

Visual Artist. Backcountry Explorer. Cultivator of Potential. Lisa combines these gifts to create artwork whose vision and messages inspire and encourage, using contemporary representational methods.

Born in England, but raised in the heart of the Midwest in the United States, Lisa has never met a stranger in her life. This served her well during years of teaching Visual Arts to youth and adults, after earning her BA in Fine Art and Education at the University of Tulsa.

Lisa has been named one of Colorado’s top 60 artists. Her award-winning artwork has been exhibited in Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, and national and international virtual exhibitions, including National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society, American Women Artists, International Society of Acrylic Painters, and more.

When not adventuring outdoors with Studio Puppy in pursuit of her next painting, "doing life" with the young women she mentors, or making memories with loved ones, Lisa is in her studio, breathing life into people, animals, and her beloved landscapes using a variety of media.

My Methods

Driving Vision

"Heart Vision" --the term Lisa uses to describe a combination of a desire for adventure, deep faith and a need to create. Each piece Lisa creates begins with these three elements, guiding her explorations with an over-arching goal in mind: to use the Visual Arts to convey to her viewers the glory of God in the beauty of nature.

Preliminary Research

Lisa explores the Western United States and beyond in pursuit of finding her own reference photographs to match her inner "heart vision". This involves spending days in the wilderness, "chasing the sun and moon" to observe how different views change with the passage of light, and how that affects the mood and message of each place.

Studies & Drawings

After backcountry exploration and photography, Lisa then begins drawing, sketching, and conducting color studies to create the perfect composition for each artwork.

Canvas Building & Surface Prep

With the canvas fully prepared, Lisa mixes her paints and begins building the foundation layers for her piece to create the underpainting. This starts the process of color-blocking each section and building the forms of her subject matter, establishing her values, hues and basic details.

Final Steps

Once the blocking is done, Lisa meticulously adds in fine details, and once dry, finalizes the painting with an archival seal clear coat to help preserve her piece so that her work may be enjoyed for generations to come.

Blocking in & Building Layers

With the canvas fully prepared, Lisa mixes her paints and begins building the foundation layers for her piece. This starts the process of color blocking each section and building the painting's form.
